Here are Some Differences Between Meditation and Yoga

The slow, calm movements of Yoga are often equated with the movements of meditation. Although the movements of the two are almost similar and can't be separated from breathing techniques, there are actually some differences between meditation and yoga. Understanding Meditation and Yoga

Yoga is a gymnastic movement that is mostly focused on mind and breathing activities to achieve physical and spiritual health. Yoga has the goal of achieving a spiritual state that improves mental and physical health.

This activity is said to have 8 levels which include Samadhi, Yama, Niyama, Asana, Dharana, Pranayama, Prayathara and Dhyana. In short, yoga belongs to a traditional form of practice that must be practiced every day.

On the other hand, meditation is an activity to focus feelings and thoughts to achieve something. Meditation is the 8th part of yoga called Dhyana.

Meditation can help human thinking to be sharper and sensitive to an object or problem. In short, meditation is included in the methods used to achieve spirituality and stability of the human mind.

The Origin of Meditation and Yoga

Meditation and yoga actually originate from the same place, namely India.  Meditation has existed and began to develop from 1500 BC in Ancient India. While yoga began to be known and experienced rapid development from 2000 BC, which is known from the carving of a character doing yoga.

Benefits of Meditation and Yoga

The other difference between meditation and yoga lies in the benefits to be achieved by doing these activities. The benefits to be achieved from yoga activities are getting an equal body, inner and outer health with a calm and peaceful life and an ideal body with a fresh mind.

While in meditation, you who often do it will get peace of mind, and get spiritual satisfaction. Meditation is more inclined to certain beliefs so that all forms of activity have a spiritual smell.

Practice On Meditation and Yoga

The practice of yoga has more diverse movements, similar to the exercises that are usually done in the morning and evening.  The movement is adapted to its function. Examples of moves include Mountain Pose, Downward Facing Dong Pose, Plank Pose, Triangle Pose, Tree Pose and Warrior Pose.

While the meditation movement is just same or similar at all. Most are sitting and still in one place with the aim of really getting peace of mind and mind. Types of meditation include mind meditation, spiritual meditation, focused meditation, mantra meditation, movement meditation, and transcendental meditation.

Tools and Places Used

When practicing yoga, the tools needed are usually a mattress or pad to be used as a base.  With these pads, yoga activities are more comfortable to do and make it easier for you to use any movement.  The place for yoga is mostly done in an enclosed space such as hot yoga.

While in meditation there is no need to use any tools.  Because the goal is to approach oneself with nature, therefore, most of the activities are carried out in the field or in the open.  Meditation is rarely done in a closed room so that the goal is easily achieved.

Blending with nature is believed to be a way to get a strong spiritual balance.  However, if you're interested in doing it in an enclosed space, that's fine too. Just adjust it to your will, for example on the bed, living room, or elsewhere though.

Those are the differences between meditation and yoga where both are different both in terms of purpose and movement. Yoga is mostly done to maintain a healthy body, while meditation is part of yoga that is done to get inner and outer peace and is more directed towards spiritual goals.
